Representation

Washington, D.C. elects one delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives who can join committees and debate, but cannot vote on final legislation. The district has zero representation in the U.S. Senate

Driving Laws

If you hold a D.C. driver's license and experience a seizure, you must report it to the DMV within 30 calendar days.

The DMV will suspend your driving privileges for 12 months from the date of your last episode.

To reinstate your license:

You must submit a completed Medical Report.

You are required to prove you have been completely free of seizures or loss of consciousness for at least 12 consecutive months

School Laws

Medication Delegation: Trained school employees or agents may safely give emergency seizure treatments according to the action plan. 

Voluntary Training: The D.C. Department of Health offers voluntary seizure awareness training multiple times per school year. 

Emergency Stocking: Under related health rules, schools also stock designated emergency medications through programs managed by D.C. Health and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).

Legal Protections: Staff who provide standard emergency first aid or medication following the action plan are protected by a Good Samaritan clause.
