Puerto Rico

Representation

Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Because it is not a state, it has no senators, and its representative in the House of Representatives is a delegate, called the Resident Commissioner, with limited voting privileges. Delegates have a marginalized role in Congress, and their constituents are not represented in Congress in the same manner as most citizens.

If you are a resident of Puerto Rico, we support your efforts to demand the same representation as States in Congress and the Senate.

In the meantime, your one representative, called an ‘at-large’ representative, is:

Pablo José Hernández Rivera | (202) 225-2615

Driving Laws

No Fixed Waiting Period: Unlike many U.S. states that mandate being seizure-free for 3 t1months, Puerto Rico's vehicle laws do not specify a fixed number of seizure-free months.

Individual Physician Evaluation: Assessment of driving safety relies heavily on the attending doctor's personal recommendation and medical judgment rather than a rigid statutory timeline.

General Fitness to Drive: The Department of Transportation and Public Works expects drivers to be medically stable and safe behind the wheel, meaning individuals should consult their neurologist before driving after a recent episode.

School Laws

Seizure Action Plans: Under legislation like Law 76-2026, public and private schools must implement Seizure Action School Plans.

Staff training: School personnel must be prepared to respond to seizures properly.

Anti-discrimination: Schools are required to provide reasonable accommodations and prohibit discrimination against students with epilepsy.
